It’s easy for a DIVA interview to become a process of just moving from one question to the next, and for it to feel like a verbal checklist. But by digging a little deeper and understanding what sits underneath each criterion, the interview can give you much richer information about your client’s presentation.
In this 90-minute practical session, I’ll share the tips and strategies I’ve developed through my own clinical practice for getting more useful information from the DIVA. We’ll look at how to structure the interview, dig deeper into responses, understand what each criterion is really capturing, explore functional impact, and integrate DIVA findings with the rest of your assessment data.
There will also be time for discussion and questions, with a focus on sharing practical approaches and working through the kinds of challenges that can arise when administering the DIVA in clinical practice.
If you’re new to the DIVA, or if you already use it but want to feel more confident getting beneath the surface and interpreting what you’re hearing, this session is for you.

The DIVA Interview: Practical Administration Tips

This is a multi-part course taking a serious deep dive into dyslexia, dysgraphia, and dyscalculia. We’ll develop a comprehensive understanding of what these learning differences actually are, unpack associated clinical and behavioural profiles, and explore the different ways they can present. We’ll also explore overlap with other neurodevelopmental conditions, discuss patterns of performance and error types on assessment, examine best-practice intervention approaches, and unpack how these conditions translate into the Specific Learning Disorder diagnosis in the DSM-5.
Please note: While we do discuss assessment practices and interpretation, this course does not provide a nuts-and-bolts, rigid ‘how to assess’ formula or discuss interpretation of specific, individual tests at a granular level. The focus is on developing a deeper understanding of these learning conditions from a neurodevelopmental perspective, allowing you to be flexible with your assessment protocols and engage in higher-level integrative interpretation of results. After all, the best assessment tool we have is our own knowledge of the condition we are trying to diagnose!
