Neurodivergence and Learning

ACCESS THE FULL VIDEO HERE.

Does your student have difficulty keeping organised, planning their approach to tasks, and understanding what is being asked of them? These are some of the key challenges that autistic and ADHDer children face at school. Difficulty with focus and concentration and with staying calm enough to persist with tasks can be further blocks to learning for neurodivergent kids. BUT! If we can teach neurodivergent kids with their neurobiology in mind, we can allow them to thrive at school and not just survive.

This training will cover:

  • What is neurodiversity + the social model of disability.

  • Why are we seeing an increase in the number of kids struggling with the demands of school?

  • The autistic and ADHD cognitive and learning profiles and the underlying neurobiology behind these.

  • Factors impacting engagement and learning in the classroom for neurodivergent kids; how these interact with each other and how to distinguish what is driving difficulty with engagement or learning for a particular student.

  • Principles of differentiation across engagement, comprehension, and implementation domains.

  • Strategies to support classroom learning and assessment; at the school-wide level, the teacher level, and the parent level.
